Western Skies Australian Whites is a seedstock operation in Buffalo, Wyoming. We're developing a foundation of registered Australian White sheep bred to thrive in real U.S. production environments.
Our sheep are selected on grass. Fertility, maternal ability, structural soundness, shedding, and carcass quality all have to earn their place.

Every ewe in the Western Skies program is required to do her job on grass — breed back, raise strong lambs, shed clean, and stay sound. Replacements are kept only when they earn it.
Why We Focus on Forage

Our forage-based philosophy isn't driven by trends—it's driven by practicality.
Before starting Western Skies Australian Whites, I owned a commercial cattle feedlot, ran cattle on rangeland, and have sold grass-fed beef directly to hundreds of customers. Those experiences taught me that both grain-based and forage-based production systems have their place.
For our operation in north central Wyoming, a forage-based flock simply makes the most sense. Our region produces abundant pasture and quality hay, but very few feed grains. Most grain would need to be transported long distances, increasing both costs and our reliance on outside feed sources.
By developing our sheep on the forages that are naturally available in our environment, we're selecting animals that are efficient, adaptable, and capable of thriving in the same conditions many of our neighboring states experience. We believe our management should reflect the realities of our region and produce sheep that are built for practical, sustainable production.
